I chose to explore the School of Child & Youth Care through the University of Victoria . I found that many of the research Initiatives in Africa through the University of Victoria are similar to those we have in the United States . Many of the similarities in topics include parental and family involvement, cultural sensitivity, child care and early education practices, curriculum development, and educator training.
I thought it was particularly interesting that many of the research initiatives were focused on motherless homes and care in orphanages. Due to the abundance of children being orphaned by HIV/AIDS the need to train individuals to provide these children with quality care has increased dramatically.
The website, http://www.ecdvu.org/ssa/major_reports.php, offers a wealth of knowledge to educators, administrators and parents alike. The research done by the students of the University of Victoria offers insight into the importance of early care and education throughout the world.

Great post, Alicia!
ReplyDeleteIt is great that many research initiatives are being focused on motherless homes and care in orphanages. It is not a child's fault that they have HIV/AIDS, and they too need to be educated. I am glad individuals are being trained to give children care and education. Thank you for the external link; I will add that to my resources!

Susan
Hi Alicia,
ReplyDeleteGreat Post!!! I have to admit that prior to reading your post I had not visited the website. But the information you provided is so great that I had to check it out immediately. I think that the number of children orphaned because of HIV/AIDS is devastating, but I am glad that actions are taken to ensure that they receive quality care.
Alicia,
ReplyDeleteI also explored the ECDVU website. You make a good point about much of the research focusing on issues specific to Africa. One of the research topics that I noticed focused on how to support grandparents raising children with AIDS/HIV. Before exploring this website, I had not idea that such a virtual university existed. I was very impressed by the research being done by the students. The feedback from the students seemed to indicate that they found the experience very beneficial.
