Why I Became A Teacher

At least once a day a student of mine will do something that reminds me why a became a teacher.  They will give me that feeling, that feeling that kind of makes your heart skip a beat, that rewarding feeling that makes you feel like you really are making a difference.  The other day I sat down with a student to help him write his name.  I had already written it in black marker, I told him we were going to rainbow trace his name (trace over the letters with two or more colors).  So we began slowly making each letter in his name.  After we completed his name with the first color, he looks up at me, his eyes twinkling and says "So this is my name!?"  I realized that he had never seen his name on paper.  I could see the excitement in his eyes, when he realized he could make marks on paper that actually meant something, his name.  These are the little moments that make me appreciate teaching.
