There is a garden in every childhood, an enchanted place where colors are brighter, the air softer, and the morning more fragrant than ever again. ~Elizabeth Lawrence
Childhood is measured out by sounds and smells and sights, before the dark hour of reason grows. ~John Betjeman, Summoned by Bells
When I read these quotes I thought of the innocence of childhood, the eagerness to learn and discover. Children are like flowers ready to grow all we need to do as parents and educators is guide them and provide them with love and encouragement, a safe place to grow and learn, and experiences to shape them into the wonderful individuals they will be as adults. I wonder if by putting so much emphasis on academics at such an early age we are suppressing their love of learning and self discovery? Maybe children do need a little more time to "play!"
