Reflecting on Learning

My passionate hope for the future as an early childhood professional is to continue to advocate for the rights and well being of young children.  My hope is that my anti-bias work will continue on through the children I educate and the families of the children that I work with.  As an educator, I hope to instill a love of learning, an appreciation of the differences in themselves and others, and the strength to stand up for equity and justice for all in the children I teach.

I want to thank my colleagues for their kind words of encouragement, insight, and provocative thoughts.  It's been a difficult journey, raising two young children of my own, teaching full-time, and finding time to develop my professional passion.  "Speaking" with colleagues who also share this challenge has made the journey a little easier.  I appreciate your genuine thoughts and comments and wish you all the best in your future endeavors.

  1. Alicia,
I enjoyed learning with you during this course. I applaud you for being a mommy, teacher, and student at the same time. I have been balancing the same things and it is not easy! Good luck with your future endeavors. :)

  2. I encourage you to add to your list, the task of educating other teachers! Few early educators have had the opportunity to explore anti-bias in the manner which we have done. This gives us a responsibility to share some of what we have learned with other teachers so that we may create a ripple effect in which the message of anti-bias spreads outwards from each of us to influence an ever-growing number of others.

  3. Greg has a great point, so many educators out there are not aware of what we are learning. During my observations earlier in the program I would ask questions and the teachers looked at me very funny! I had to learn to reword the questions on the spot so I was able to gain some insight but anti-bias was quite foreign to most of them.

Thank you for the insights you have shared throughout this course, it is very encouraging to have peers who take the course seriously and push you to do more!
