I have chosen to research the
developmental effects of poverty on young children. I am starting to
feel more confident with my ability to do research, however, I am
still feeling a little overwhelmed. Knowing that I can break up the
research simulation into smaller steps is helping to reduce my
feelings of anxiety. Constructing the research chart has been
extremely helpful, I was very unfamiliar with the terms I chose.
Looking through various definitions and examples of the terms gave me
a greater understanding of the terms and how I might use them in my
own research. It has also been helpful to look through the various
components of research paper to be used as a mentor text in writing a
research paper. Are there any credible websites or books that I
should look into to better understand the repercussions of poverty on
a young child's development?
Excellent topic to choose from! I think there could be so much more research conducted on the effects of poverty on young children! It is conducive to their learning to avoid the negative effects of poverty, but how is that accomplished?
ReplyDeleteI struggled with the chart, but I was shocked at how little I knew about research. Unlike you, I am not confident with research, and I hope by the end of this course I can feel more at ease about conducting research!
Again, great topic! I look forward to your findings!

A Framework for Understanding Poverty by Ruby Payne, I took a workshop based on this book my first year teaching and I remember it being pretty helpful. Good luck!! xoxo
ReplyDeleteGreat topic. After our last class I became very interested in this topic, but felt it was a little overwhelming.
ReplyDeleteI am fairly confident with research, but am not looking forward to this simulation. I do not see how there is time to do everything involved in setting up an effective research study. I guess that's why it is a simulation though, we will not have to do all the steps thoroughly. Good luck on your research.
Hi Alica,
ReplyDeleteI believe that the topic you chose is a great one and will be very rewarding towards your future work with children. This is my first experience and at times I can be slightly intimidated when I am not familiar with something. I wish you the best of luck and it seems like you are off to a great start.
