Professional Hopes and Goals

As an early childhood educator I hope to create a classroom that is a welcoming and inviting environment for all.  I want children to see themselves embedded in the classroom; on walls, in books, in projects and in the curriculum.  I imagine a classroom where children are not afraid to speak up and be themselves.  A classroom of respect and appreciation for the differences in others.

A professional goal of my regarding diversity is to strengthen communication between myself and the families of my children in order to form a greater understanding of the unique cultures present within my classroom.

I want to thank my colleagues for their discussion posts and blog posts that have added and expanded my knowledge and understanding of diversity, culture, equity and social justice.  I wish you luck in your educational journey and look forward to speaking with you again in upcoming classes!

  1. Hi Alicia:

I enjoyed reading your post. I believe we all have similar goals; well, at least those who are truly looking to erase the color lines and see the inner person. I can only speak for those people. Don't get me wrong, I think every culture should celebrate their heritage and everything but we all should celebrate each other too. We all need each other, whether we want to believe it or not. May God bless you in all of your endeavors as you continue your journey of early childhood.
