I do find myself communicating differently with different people. At home and with my family my communication style is much more relaxed than when I communicate with colleagues or families of my students. At home my husband, son and I often kid each other or are sarcastic with each other. With people that I am unfamiliar with I am more conscious of their feelings, I am often better at listening than talking with people whom I've had little contact with. Not that I'm not aware of my family member's feelings, I am just more sensitive to the diverse needs of colleagues and the families of my students. I am careful not to offend, judge, or assume anything about a person. As an early childhood professional it is imperative to put aside biases during communication with others and address all people with an open heart and an open mind.

Hi Alicia,
ReplyDeleteI am also careful not to offend others through my communication. If your goal is to fully understnad and connect with the othe rperson, listening effectively will often come naturally. Thanks for sharing!
